| Wow, it's sooo hard to be a mommy when your little man is sick and you feel so helpless to help him to feel better. Tuesday Caleb slipped and hit his head, then he started crawling again instead of walking and then he started to vomit, lots. We got worried he was concussed and so we brought him to the hospital. After 4 hours we saw a doctor and then got transferred to the bigger city hospital so they could observe him in a children's ward over night in case of a brain bleed. That is a phrase I never want to hear again in reference to my son, ever. Thankfully we found out it was just a coincidence. He had a gastro bug and the hit on the head was just bad timing. He has a big gooseegg on his head, but other than that you wouldn't know. However, he had to get an IV, they had to restrain him to put it in and it almost broke my heart. It's been a long 48 hours, maybe I'll fill you all in on the details later, but for now I need lots and lots of sleep. I think the last time I stayed up all night (believe me, I've had lots of time to think about it!) It was deliberately, at Hanover Bibleschool when we were 17. We always stayed up all night on the last night and tried to sneak to the guys dorm. Well, this was much different. Caleb had to be checked for responses to ensure no brain probs (this is before they figured out it was gastro) so he was woken every 2 hours to check, had vitals taken every hour and I had to rock him back to sleep after most of the checks. He's now home and sleeping all day and all night except for waking up to cry and poop, poor lil man. He's now got a fever and diarrhoea, but has at least stopped vomitting. It's amazing how you can summon energy and stay awake for so long when your baby needs you (Ev, you are soon to discover this wonderful tool!), but as soon as we were home and he was settled in his own bed last night I nearly collapsed. The room started spinning and I was too tired to eat, even though I had barely eaten all day. I slept for 10 hours straight, Caleb had nearly 12 hours and woke to drink a whole cup of electrolytes. He's been sleeping on and of all day. Glad Tim took another day off work, cuz it would have been hard without him. My parents have been amazing, washing all the vomitty clothes, doing dishes and generally trying to take care of us and our house as much as possible so we can focus on taking care of Caleb and trying to get a bit of sleep in between! Off to bed. Hugs to all
